The FURY Men improved their record to 5-3-1 and remain undefeated at home with a valuable 4-2 victory over the Vermont Voltage on Wednesday night. All four FURY goals came in the first half of play with Florian DeCamp leading the way with two while Will Beaugé and Martin John chipped in with one each. The win not only moved the FURY into contention for the wild card playoff spot, but edged them closer to division leading Cape Cod.
The FURY were encouraged all evening long with a boisterous crowd supporting the home side led by many of the FURY Youth Clubs that play out of the SYL. The home-side advantage certainly seemed evident as the FURY were controlling the game on all areas of the pitch.
The game became more physical in the closing stages with several yellow cards being shown. Drozd had to work hard to maintain the shutout saving well from Daniel Stevens. Kihara and Beauge both went close before some sloppy defending opened the door for a Voltage comeback. First, in the 81st minute, Stevens was dragged down in the box and from the ensuing penalty, Stevens took the kick himself and put the Voltage on the scoreboard. The Fury got caught napping in the 85th minute when substitute Bernouni Nassim was given time to fire a low shot pass Drozd in the Fury net to make the score 4-2. The Fury regained their composure and were able to see out the remainder of the game without further incident.
